In 2002 I did my first yoga class and it made me feel amazing. I walked away after the class feeling stronger, taller, lighter and completely renewed and revitalised. The yoga postures combined with the breathing practices seemed to provide a perfect balance between movement and stillness.
So after the class I decided to join Dharma Yoga School and complete their 2 year Yoga Teaching Diploma (500 hours). Since 2004 I have been blessed to study with many wonderful teachers who continue to inspire and influence my practice. Some of the teachers include: Jean-Alain D’Argent, Michael Hamilton, Richard Freeman, Stephen Thomas, Sean Corn, Bo Forbes, Simon Borg Oliver, Louisa Sear, Max Strom and Josh Summers.
The effects of yoga on me are vast. Yoga makes me feel physically, mentally and emotionally stronger. It enables me to access sensations in my body, to free any tension leaving me with a feeling of spaciousness. The practices work to quieten my mind allowing me to be fully present and aware of the habitual patterns of thinking. Yoga then works its magic by disempowering any destructive thought patterns over time.
Norman Vincent Pearle once said “Change your thoughts and you change your world”.
You may ask why share all of this. The reason is to explain why I chose to become a teacher. The gifts of a regular yoga practice are infinite and different for all. My desire is to share the teachings in a safe and nurturing environment in the hope others are able to reap the rewards of this truly transformational system as I have.
As Pattabhi Jois said “Yoga is 99% practice and 1% theory”.
So don’t wait…..join a class now!
