I stumbled across the below quote in my morning’s meditation and book reading session. It could not have been any more perfect for what I needed to hear. So I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!.
Our minds are continually trying to work out ways to change our conditions (people, events, experiences) so we feel better and feel less fear about what could happen. The mind wants certainty and clings to favourable outcomes and thus thoughts continually go round and round about how we can alter things so to secure better outcomes for ourselves. We don’t want to suffer and try to avoid pain at any cost. But trying to control our pain in years to come when it may not even happen is pointless. So leaning to just be with what is present now accepting favourable and unfavourable circumstances is the teaching for lessening our suffering.
Don’t worry about what could happen as it may turn out that you worried about all these events that never ended up happening. All we can guarantee is this very moment. So sitting now really value your aliveness, being grateful for your next breath and your next breath as that is all we can be sure of.
